What is the Living Wage Act?
The living wage act created in 2006 became effective June 9th 2006.

What does this act do? Provides District of Columbia government contractors and recipients of government assistance (grants, loans, tax increment financing) in the amount of $100,000 or more shall pat affiliated employees’ wages no less than the living wage rate.

Effective January 1st 2014, the Living Wage Rate $13.60 per hour.

Subcontractors of D.C government contractors who receive $15,000 or more from the contract and subcontractors of the recipients of government assistance who receive $50,000 or more from the assistance are also required to pay their affiliated employees no less than the current living wage rate.

What is an Affiliated Employee- an individual employed by a recipient who receives compensation directly from government assistance or contract with the District of Columbia government, including any employee of a contractor or subcontractor of a recipient who performs services pursuant to government assistance or contract.

This act is too enforced by all employers. Employers that do not enforce the “Living Wage Act” Title I of D.C law 16-18 reported to the Contracting Officer. If an employee gains knowledge of the Living Wage Act, working in D.C as your employee the employee has the right to contact DOES Office Wage- Hour.
