Beyond your lost dreams: There’s hope through your enterprising child

This week, I opened many news sites and newspapers and discovered similar headlines through and through. Of course, it’s election month and the euphoria could not be ignored. Yet this election has delivered something of historical significance – we got, for the first time, a female Vice President-elect. In as much as I would like to comment on this around political discussions, I would rather choose to see something of personal value to many of my readers and clients. What is that? Well, the election of the first female Vice President of the USA showed that barriers can be broken down.

Speaking of barriers, I watched many times when friends mourned about how they failed to live their dreams. I watched as many close acquaintances suffered a life of failure after failure. In many ways, people my age and above have a couple of dreams they have given up on. But I want to tell you that, just like in the Bible, there is a time and season for everything. You only must have the wisdom to recognize when your time is coming.

Wealth building is more of a game of timing because many factors are in play when you do so. Therefore, when you see that you’re getting older with nothing towards building generational wealth, take courage. You must take courage because, while others can’t even start to think of the generational wealth, you would have been thinking about it. And that’s a promising sign that you’re likely to start making moves towards wealth-building.

As such, generational wealth is all about your FAMILY. Since it’s about your family, anyone in the household can begin this wealth-building journey through a formal business. This means that your child can help you start building the kind of wealth you always wanted for your family. This is to say, even if you failed to start a business, your child can make you enjoy working in a family business. It’s another way of helping this dream come alive. Remember, barriers can be broken; your past cannot dictate what happens to you today.

I understand that some may think it’s all about the child when they form a business. Not at all. When my 7-year-old son starts a business, I will be fully involved in it, helping with many things, as we have previously stated. Therefore, my child could be the founder, but I could be the manager, or chair of the board if there’s one. While at it, I will work hard not only to help my child’s dream grow. But also to see the entire family’s net worth growing.

So, your child’s business can build your family’s pride.

Your child’s business can help you live your dream.

Your child’s business can help you rise again when all you had known was a downcast life your entire life.

Your child’s business can help build a sense of purpose once again across your immediate family.

Therefore, even when you were past your prime time, it doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world. This article is to help you be alive to the fact that your time is not limited to your age. While some opportunities would have gone past you, you can’t afford to stay back and decide not to fight anymore. You have your child who is super-imaginative and ready to start something at a young age.

I have also seen many people of my age and above not fighting to build wealth because they say it’s for the rich. In order to correct this misconception, you must know something important. You must know that, back then, opportunities were slim to none, especially for an average black family. But right now we are talking of a totally different environment. Right now there are many equal opportunities existing across the country. Your child is free to compete in any field that he/she so desires. If I may bluntly put it, the lack of opportunity only exists in our minds. I understand this fact because once people get oppressed and pushed aside from the truth for a long time, they cease to believe in the greater good. But we got to correct that now.

So, in order to live the life of correcting past misconceptions, start by looking at your child. Look at things that they like to do, talk to them, and ask how they would like to make money. Remember, in every good thing that happens, someone is got to see the light first and alert others to it. Therefore, I am speaking to you, as the parent; see the light first and alert your child to this fact.

Once you are in agreement, you start building the business from scratch. While doing this, you will be righting all the wrongs of the past. You will be claiming back your family’s pride. And, you will be starting an important journey of building generational wealth.

When I say all parents of young children, some may say mine is already 20 so is out of it. Not at all! For a younger child, of course, there are more benefits because of taxes and the fact that you’re more involved. When they are older and independent, they make adverse decisions, but that’s very rare. It’s rare for you to help your 20-year-old child open a business only for them to dump the entire family. I say this because business-minded children have a greater goal in mind, which is building generational wealth.

Therefore, make sure that you help your children open a business to help you live your dream. They could be 6, 7, 12, or 20-years-old, it won’t matter, just help them open a business. I am saying this to you because, for a child to run a business, it cannot only be about them, but their parents also do benefit. With that being said, what are you going to choose? Sit back and still know that you missed a dream forever? Or are you going to help your child open a business?
